Accra, Nov.25, GNA – Ghanaian attacker, Thelma Baffour Atuah has won the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League with Congolese side TP Mazembe after defeating familiar foes ASFAR Club in the finals.
An early minute advantage curtesy Marlene Yav was enough to earn the Central African side their first title to etch their names in the annals of the competition.
Baffour, a household name in the Congolese Premier League once again delivered an exceptional performance to secure victory for the giants.
Lamia Boumehdi, Head Coach of TP Mazembe believed Baffour’s inclusion in the squad contributed to their success following the quality she possessed throughout the tournament.
The youngster featured in all five games, keeping the attack of the Congolese side dangerous anytime she approached the 18-yard-box.
She has now become the second Ghanaian to win the CAF Women’s Champions League since its inception in 2021.
In addition to her trophy cabinet, Baffour also won the 2024 DR Congo president cup, Women’s Premier League and the UNIFFAC tournament with TP Mazembe.
The Ghanaian international was part of a young squad that qualified Jonina Football Academy from the Greater Accra Division One league to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier league before moving to the Congolese side.
Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, the youngster revealed that a call up to the senior national team of Ghana, Black Queens would be a dream come true having paid her dues at the junior level.
“2024 has been my year I must say. My performance in this tournament tells a lot. I gave my all to support my club and I am happy we have been able to achieve this together. I aspire to play in the big leagues in Europe soon,” She said.
