Body of missing Israeli rabbi found in United Arab Emirates

Tel Aviv, Nov 24, (dpa/GNA) – An Israeli rabbi missing in the United Arab Emirates has been found murdered, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Security authorities in the Gulf state found the man’s body, after an intensive search.

His death was a case of “anti-Semitic terrorism,” the Israeli ministry said in a statement. No details were given as to the exact cause of death.

The rabbi was a member of the ultra-Orthodox Chabad community, and reportedly also a Moldovan citizen.

According to the Israeli news website ynet, he lived in the UAE, and ran a kosher supermarket in Dubai. He had been missing since Thursday.

His car was found in the city of al-Ain on Saturday, according to the report.

After the missing person case became known, it was reported that there were indications that Iran was responsible for the rabbi’s disappearance.

Citing intelligence sources, ynet reported that three Uzbek nationals acting on behalf of Iran, were believed to have pursued the man. They were said to have later fled to Turkey.

It was unclear whether the rabbi was killed, immediately after his abduction.

In 2020, the UAE, became the first Gulf state to establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
