Tamale, Nov 24, GNA – Flagbearers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to attend a conference in Tamale to share their perspectives on key development challenges affecting the northern part of the country.

They were billed to attend the conference dubbed: “Structured Dialogue Between Political Party Flagbearers and Citizens towards Elections 2024”.

Key development challenges affecting the northern part of the country, which they were expected to share their perspectives on, were in the areas of education, governance and decentralisation, destruction of the environment, and conflicts.

The conference was organised by the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON), which is the mouthpiece of the Catholic Church in northern Ghana.

Very Reverend Father Martin Muosayir, Chairperson of TEPPCON, speaking during the conference, said even though the Flagbearers did not turn up for the conference, TEPPCON would ensure that the issues tabled for discussion reached them.

Professor Eliasu Alhassan, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University for Development Studies, said there was need to evaluate the Free Senior High School initiative and come up with some comprehensive reforms to make it more sustainable.
