Konongo-Odumase (Ash), Nov. 24, GNA – As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Konongo Area Office of the Agency has organised a health walk at Konongo in the Ashanti-Akim Central Municipality.

It was attended by participants drawn from public institutions, security agencies, students from local schools, staff of EPA, and the public.

Apart from its health benefits, the walk sought to create public awareness about the devastating effects of negative environmental practices on the environment as the Agency celebrates its Golden Jubilee.

Participants walked through the principal streets of Konongo and converged at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly where they concluded the exercise with aerobic session under the supervision of the security agencies.

“50 Years of Environmental Protection: Achievements, Challenges and the Future,” is the theme for the Anniversary.

Mr. Dawood Abbas, EPA Konongo Area Office Head, said the EPA was not only celebrating past achievements, but also reaffirmed its commitment to a sustainable future.

He said the theme for the Anniversary reflected the crucial link between a healthy environment and a healthy population.

The EPA, he noted, had worked tirelessly over the past five decades to safeguard the country’s natural resources, promote sustainable development, and raise awareness about environmental issues.

“Today, we stand united in recognising that every step we take towards environmental protection is a step towards a healthier, more vibrant Ghana.”

He encouraged the participants to carry the enthusiasm for the walk to their communities and inspired others to make conscious choices that protected the environment.

“Let us remember that our actions today will shape the world for future generations. Together, we can ensure our environment thrives, and in turn, our environment flourishes,” he told the participants.
