Kumasi Nov. 23, GNA – Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), have been urged to focus on peace-building and work to co-exist in harmony with all other people, irrespective of tribe, political affiliation, or social status.
They should see themselves as people concerned with the growth and development of the nation and desist from any act that could bring tension and violence as the country prepared for the December general elections.
Mr Stephen Chandauk Thambe Gyan, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD), who made the call in a statement issued in Kumasi ahead of the December elections, said peace was essential to sustain the country’s development.
He said unity, peace and love could foster tolerance culture, encourage collaboration in personal, community and national interests.
It was, therefore, important for the members to commit themselves to peace maintenance and promotion, the wellbeing of fellow compatriots, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.
“Let us show Ghana that we are united and party to peace building for development,” he added.
Mr Gyan cited the devastating effects of political violence in some neighbouring countries as a result of partisan rivalry and called on members to desist from any act that could influence violence in their communities.
