Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International invest heavily in education, child literacy

Kantinkyiren (Ash), Nov. 21, GNA – The Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International has as part of its area of focus, donated educational and renovated parts of classroom blocks to give a facelift to the Cosmas Osei Forson Roman Catholic Basic School.

The school, situated at Kantinkyiren, a community in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region, benefited from the renovation of parts of its classroom blocks, fixing of white marker boards and installation of a 2,000-liter capacity water tank meant to improve sanitation and hygiene.

Additionally, the club presented 40 mono desks, 30 litter bins, 2,000 exercise books, pens, pencils, 15 wall clocks, reading books and sports kits.

Mr Jimmy Parshotam Thakur, the Vice President, Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International, speaking to the media after presentation of the items, said Rotary prioritised safe environment and quality education.

Hence, as part of the basic education and literacy project, the Club together with the HopeXchange Medical Center visited the school and assessed their needs.

Mr Thakur believed this educational support worth GH 100,000.00 would help improve teaching and learning in the school.

He said going forward the Club would do more to support community development and bring relief to the people.

This would be in health, environmental sustainability, maternal and childcare, peace building and conflict resolution, education as well as water and sanitation, per the niche areas of Rotary International, he said.

Nana Kofi Ayesu-Boahene, the Club Advisor, tasked the school to ensure good maintenance culture and used the occasion to call on Ghanaians to stay united, preach peace to one another and ensure a smooth electoral process in the upcoming general elections.

Madam Mabel Asante Ayeh, the Headmistress of Cosmas Osei Forson Roman Catholic Basic School, commended the Club for their benevolence and pledged to monitor the judicious use of the educational materials.

Rotary International connects 1.4 million members of more than 46,000 Rotary Clubs in over 200 communities and geographical areas in the world.

In Ghana, it has 67 clubs of which three are already located in Kumasi.
