Ohawu (V/R), Nov. 21, GNA – The Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC) and Ohawu Agricultural College (OAC) have launched an innovative partnership called the “AgriTech Challenge Classic” to empower students with critical agribusiness skills in pursuit of transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector.
With funding from the MasterCard Foundation, the partnership aligns with OAC’s mission to develop future leaders in agripreneurship and agribusiness management in a bid to complement the College’s academic training.
Ms. Danlette Elorm Quashigah, the KIC-OAC Faculty Advisor confirmed to the Ghana News Agency that the partnership was a notable change for agribusiness education, and it would go a long way to empower the students to drive innovation and transformation in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Participants in the AgriTech Challenge Classic gain hands-on experience, industry insights, and mentorship. Agritechies are guided to develop solutions to real-world agricultural challenges, showcase innovations, and access potential investment opportunities.
Ms. Quashigah emphasized that “the initiative would bolster the students’ practical skills and entrepreneurial mindset, as well as their exposure to innovative agribusiness solutions.”
She, however, stated that the recruitment and selection into the initiative yielded a dynamic group of agritechies from diverse academic backgrounds which KIC and OAC believe would cause positive impact in the agricultural sector.
“Students faced challenges during the Market Research Tour but addressed them through collaboration and adaptability because the College has introduced practical project-based learning modules and established a support system for sustainability,” the Faculty Advisor stated.
She reiterated that KIC-OAC’s future collaborations would focus on climate-smart agriculture and digital agriculture solutions, connect students with internship opportunities in Ghana’s agritech sector and contribute to increased agricultural productivity, job creation, and economic growth.
Ms. Quashigah lauded the efforts of Mr. Mawuli Sevor, Mr. David Akuribire and Mr. Godson Nyawudzo, the Technical Leads and Program Officer respectively of KIC-OAC for their continuous support for the initiative. She commended their selfless contributions to KIC and OAC’s development goals.
