Kporkuve, (V/R), Nov 19, GNA – The Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church in Kporkuve in the Ketu North Municipality has held a series of activities to mark its 100 years of their existence.
It was held under the theme, “The Mission of the Church, a Journey of One Hundred Years” which was premised on John 15:16.
The weeklong celebration, climaxed by a thanksgiving service Sunday, saw the Church leadership led by Reverend Dr Lt Col (Rtd) Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko, Moderator of the General Assembly of E.P Church, Rev Dr Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, Clerk of the General Assembly of EP Church, and Pastor Charles Sitsofe in attendance to grace the occasion.
The Moderator, congratulated the congregants for holding onto the Church’s faith over the period and advised them to redeem, revive, and uplift E.P Church to worship God in truth and in spirit to overcome the world.
“Promote ministerial styles that fit our time, the post-modern age, yet are relevant to our church traditions…You are expected to be receptive to change, explore new and relevant ways of doing things that bring about the progressive development of the EP Church as a whole.”
The ceremony saw not only congregants but Christians from other Churches, and traditional leaders gracing the occasion where they shared their excitement about the success of the Church and its contributions to the development of Kporkuve.
Togbi Ashiagbor IV, Dusifiaga of Weta Traditional Area, who chaired the service identified the tremendous roles played by the church towards community development including the establishment of the E.P Basic School among other services.
He called on the church leadership to continue collaborating with the natives and traditional authorities.
A 500-seater capacity chapel was commissioned and dedicated to mark the celebration Sunday morning by the Moderator.
Rev Worlanyo Yao Afewu, District Pastor shared his excitement with Ghana News Agency saying, “This is not just a centenary but a celebration to mark how this church has stood the test of time in upholding God’s kingdom and shaping the morality of Kporkuve and its environs.”
He honoured the works of the first Missionaries who played roles in the church establishment by saying, “I believe this will serve as a motivation for other missionary workers to keep the faith at work.”
The Evangelical Presbyterian Church at Kporkuve was established in 1919 with remarkable works done by one Mr Yohane Adukpo Toppar, whose missionary works in the area contributed a lot to the establishment of the Church till today.
Though the Church had its 100 years in 2019, it was ceremonially marked on November 17, 2024.
Before the thanksgiving service, the celebration was launched on Sunday, November 10 with a float through Abor, Afife to Kporkuve, followed by a public lecture Monday, November 12, and cleanup exercises.
There was also a memorial service for early missionaries and departed souls on Wednesday, November 13, and a fasting and prayer session on Friday with a centenary football game between Kporkuve E. P Primary and Afife EP Primary on Saturday with a song ministration later that night.
Togbi Dzreke Dzogegi III, Dufia of Atsiaveme/Kporkuve, Mama Gayi, Queen Mother of Kporkuve, Togbi Esru, Awadada of Weta Traditional Area and some political leaders were among the dignitaries that graced the service.
