Sunyani, Nov. 18, GNA – Mr Atta Akoto Senior, the Campaign Manager of Mr Ransford Antwi, Independent Parliamentary Candidate (PC) in Sunyani East, has expressed worry about the defacing of campaign posters and related materials of the candidate in the constituency.
He said it was unfortunate that some unknown people had defaced many of the billboards and posters of the candidate mounted at strategic locations in the constituency, saying if not checked and brought under control, that bad practice could cause political violence and disturb the prevailing peace of the constituency.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Akoto urged the Electoral Commission, security services, and other election stakeholders to stem the practice, which was also affront to the electoral laws of the nation.
“It’s a criminal offence to deface or attempt to destroy someone’s political materials and the security services must do more to apprehend the culprits for the law to deal with them,” he stated.
In another interview, Mr Sampson Alanyina Sampana, the PC for the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the constituency also expressed similar sentiments, describing the practice as electoral offense.
“Some people are trying to make some of us unpopular by defacing and destroying our posters and that behaviour must be brought under control before something unexpected happens in the run-up to the December 7, polls”, he stated.
Mr Sampana said the PNC had intensified the electioneering determined to win the parliamentary seat in the constituency, this time after contesting the Election 2012, Election 2016, and Election 2020.
He said the NPP and the NDC had nothing new to offer the constituency in terms of development and called on the electorates to vote for him on December 7.
