Amantin, (BE/R), Nov. 18, GNA – Osaberima Appau Bonsie Bonsu II, the Paramount Chief of Amantin in the Atebubu and Amantin Municipality of the Bono East Region has advised Ghanaians to uphold and defend the nation’s democratic values in the run up to the December 7, polls.
Everybody must also cherish and help preserve the prevailing peace of the nation in jealousy, ahead of the December 7, polls, he advised.
Addressing a colourful durbar to climax the annual ‘Kwafie’ Yam Festival of the chiefs and people of the area at Amantin, he said the country could not compromise on her peace for anything and therefore urged everybody to contribute to peaceful elections.
People from all spheres of life including politicians and academia attended the festival on the theme “peace and unity, a catalyst for development”.
Osaberima Bonsu II said a deepened national peace and social cohesion ought to remain a priority of everybody, saying development could not thrive in the absence of peace, and urged political parties and their followings too to behave well in the electioneering.
He emphasised that a peaceful electoral process remained essential for the sustenance of national peace and stability required to facilitate progressive development of the country.
“Political violence and instability hinder progress”, he stated, and cautioned Ghanaians against spreading misinformation and disinformation in the political season, saying effective communication remained crucial for building unity and promoting a peaceful society.
He also urged political parties to endeavour to be tolerant, saying “by listening and respecting the political views of others, we develop a deeper understanding of each other’s perspective”.
Osaberima Bonsu II said promoting peace and togetherness would lead to a healthier economic environment, thereby contributing to job creation and poverty reduction and accordingly facilitating accelerated national development.
