Gomoa Ekwamkrom (C/R), Nov. 17, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Mrs Naana Eyiah Quansah, has cut the sod for the construction works to begin on an Astroturf for the chiefs and people of Ekwamkrom in the Central Region.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the MP was grateful to the government under President Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for approving the construction of a modern stadium for the people to help harness sports talents of the youth of the area.
She said the contractor would quickly organise and move to the site to commence work because the chiefs and elders were demanding the project to be completed within the stipulated period of three months.
The MP, who is also the Deputy Interior Minister, said when Dr Bawumia got the nod as President, he would never forget the transformation of Gomoa Central.
She reiterated calls on the chiefs and people of Ekwamkrom to vote massively for her as MP and Dr Bawumia as President on December 7, to enable them to continue the good policies and programmes to ensure development.
On the elections, the Deputy Interior Minister cautioned the youth to avoid any acts that could cause violence before, during and after the polls to ensure peace and stability, adding that it would be in their own interest to cast their ballots and go home to wait for the results.
The MP said, ‘’We have only one Ghana and there is no other country the people can immigrate to when there is war as a result of election violence.’’
Nana Griffiths, Ebusuapanyin of Ekwamkrom, who represented Nana OKogyedom Awuaha II, Chief of Ekwamkrom, expressed joy that the Astroturf project was long overdue.
He expressed gratitude to the government for fulfilling the promise made to them through the MP.
He said the construction of the Astroturf would go a long way to facilitate the promotion of soccer and other sports disciplines for students and the rest of the youth at Ekwamkrom.
Mr Simon Lamptey, the contractor said the Astro turf project was among the eight projects approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to be constructed for Gomoa Central constituency.
He commended the MP for her lobbying skills, hard work and honest services to the constituents and appealed to them to continue rallying support for her candidature to help bring more projects into the area.
Mr Lamptey said the project would be completed in the next three months and assured the chiefs and the people that he would quickly move to the site for construction works to begin.
Present were, Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central and the entire constituency executives of the party.
