Nkoranza, (BE/R) Nov. 12, GNA – Mr Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, has inaugurated two ultra-modern market facilities in Bono East to spur rapid economic growth and development in the region.
The markets, situated at Nkoranza and Techiman, were constructed under the World Bank-funded Ghana Secondary Cities Support Project (GSCSP) in parts of the country.
Construction works on the “Techiman Nana Abena Market” commenced in 2020, and completed in 2023 while Nkoranza Central Market started in 2023 and completed in 2024.
Speaking at separate ceremonies at Techiman and Nkoranza, Mr Korsah, also the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South constituency, explained that 25 out of 35 markets under the GSCSP had been completed.
The facilities have police post, wash rooms, health post, mechanized boreholes, rest rooms, open shades, lorry parks, and passenger waiting space, a crèche, and stores.
Mr Korsah stressed government commitment to improving the market conditions in the country to spur trade and commerce, saying government and her development partners would continue to tackle the infrastructure deficit in the country.
He urged the people to own the markets and take proper care of the facilities, while directing the various Assemblies to maintain them.
