Bodi District celebrates 40th National Farmers’ Day

Sefwi Afere (WN/R), Nov. 9, GNA – The Sefwi Bodi District in the Western North Region has joined other districts in the country to celebrate the 40th edition of the National Farmers’ Day at Sefwi Afere.  

Mr Joseph Atta, from Sefwi Kankyiabo, was awarded the overall District Best Farmer. 

He received a motorcycle as his prize. 

Addressing the event, Mr Ignatus Akwasi Amankwah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, said farming seasons had changed due to climate change, and that the government was committed to taking proactive steps to avert the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector. 

“It is as a result of this that the government has introduced the one village, one dam to assist farmers to be able to farm throughout the year irrespective of the climate change,” he said.  

He mentioned some of the achievements under his leadership for the last eight years, including the construction of classroom blocks, District Court, staff bungalows, community durbar grounds, community water systems, market centres,  and roads rehabilitation. 

Mr Amankwah said: “I have a lot of achievements to my credit as the District Chief Executive of the area, and whoever comes after me has a foundation to build on.” 

Nana Yaw Nti ll, the Chief of Sefwi Afere,  congratulated the farmers in Ghana, especially those in the Bodi District for working hard to feed the nation.  

He asked the farmers in the area to adjust themselves to the modern ways of farming to be able to compete with farmers across the country for the national best farmer award.  

Mr Atta, in his remarks, encouraged the youth in the area to venture into farming because there was a lot to gain in farming business.
