3,200 jobs on offer as salt harvesting begins in Ada

Accra, Nov 8, GNA – Electrochem Ghana Limited, a local salt mining company operating at the Ada Songhor Lagoon, is set to recruit 3,200 workers for the current salt harvesting season.

The workers will be engaged in manually harvesting salt across the company’s 6,000-acre concession.

While the company holds a larger 41,000-acre concession, it is presently cultivating 6,000 acres and has allocated 1,000 acres to local communities through its outgrower scheme.

In an interview, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Razak Adam, emphasized that the nationwide recruitment aligns with Electrochem’s commitment to boosting the local economy by creating sustainable employment opportunities and addressing the country’s unemployment challenges.

“At Electrochem Ghana, we believe in working hand-in-hand with the communities where we operate.

“This salt harvest is not just an economic activity; it’s an opportunity to provide jobs, improve livelihoods, and support the people who have been custodians of this resource,” he stated.

Mr. Adam, CEO of Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, stated that the company was dedicated to responsible and sustainable practices, with a strong focus on the welfare of the local people in Ada and across Ghana, particularly in job creation.

He stated that while Electrochem had the capability to use mechanized harvesting methods, the decision to employ manual labour was intentional.

That choice was made to preserve the community’s longstanding tradition of manual salt harvesting and to help make the local population economically independent.

“Ada has always been at the heart of salt production in Ghana. By preserving a manual approach for this harvest season, we are not only choosing traditional practices but also ensuring that the economic benefits remain in the community.

“The people of Ghana (Ada) are our partners, and together, we aim to build a legacy that serves generations to come,” he said.
