Dodo-Pepesu (O/R), Nov. 08, GNA – Nana Saafo Attara II, the Adontenhene of Dodo Traditional Area, has urged the Department of Food and Agriculture and Award Selection Committee for the National Farmers’ Day celebration, to consider awarding Chiefs who are into farming, to attract idling youth into agriculture.
He said the youth perceived agriculture as punishment and needed mentorship to break that barrier.
He said farming had numerous and impressive benefits and that farming was good for health, served as a source of income, helped environment thrive, challenging and stimulating work.
Nana Attara II, who is also the Chief of Dodo-Pepesu and Chairman for the 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration, said this during an acceptance.
He appealed to the Awards Selection Committee to be transparent in choosing the Awardees.
The Chief also appealed for the inclusion of Palm Wine tappers to be involved in the award-winning scheme.
The Kadjebi District is expected to award 16 farmers and one Agriculture Extension Officer during the 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration.
