Hohoe (V/R), Nov. 08, GNA – A total of 71 Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have received economic empowerment items from the Assembly.
They include ten table kiosks stocked with provisions, 11 fufu pounding machines, one palm oil extractor, 30 deep freezers, four industrial sewing machines and four laptops.
Mr Francis Fiakpui, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) presenting the items to the beneficiaries said it was part of the Assembly’s support for PWDs in the Municipality.
He said the Assembly also provided educational support to 55 PWDs over the period.
Mr Fiakpui encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and that the Assembly would only be able to help more beneficiaries if they utilized what they received well.
He admonished parents and guardians of PWDs to make sure their wards use of the items benefited the people on whose behalf they received them.
Mr John-Peter Amewu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Hohoe Constituency, said the items were to equip the beneficiaries with skills to implement their projects and programmes.
He said the items were to build the capacities of beneficiaries to become independent and self-reliant.
Mr Amewu said the government would not discriminate but continue to work hard and share the national resources equitably.
He noted that disability was not a setback hence the need for beneficiaries to appreciate and use the little given to them judiciously.
Mr Elolo Adjei, the Chairman, Hohoe Disability Fund Management Committee, noted that a follow-up made by the Social Welfare Department revealed that some past beneficiaries put their items to good use whilst others were not able to do so.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and urged those in trading to always generate enough revenues that would help them to restock when their products were finished.
Mr Agyei appealed to the beneficiaries not to forgo their items and went back to the street to beg for alms.
He also pleaded with politicians to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner devoid of insults and violence.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Assembly for the support and promised to make good use of the items.
