Techiman (BE/R) Nov. 08, GNA -The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) says all drinking and beer bars across the country are banned from operating on 7th of December 2024, which is the Election Day.

Mr Fred Frimpong, a Civic Education Officer of the Commission, beer bars could only open places from 1800 hours after the General Election was over.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman in the Boo East Region, he said the ban was necessitated to control alcoholism among the populace, that could possibly disrupt or affect the conduct of the December 7, polls.

“Allowing the drinking and beer bars to operate on the Election Day can disturb the electoral process,” Mr Frimpong stated.

He cautioned the electorates that double voting remained a serious electoral offence and asked them to avoid the temptation of voting twice at different polling stations, saying culprits would be prosecuted.

In another interview, the Reverend Prince Owusu Asaku, the Chairman of the Bono East Regional Peace Council also advised the electorates and Ghanaians in general to remain law abiding and peace-loving citizens.

He said Ghana required absolute peace and social cohesion to facilitate her accelerated national development, and therefore advised everybody to contribute to strengthening the prevailing national peace.
