Jordan Ayew handed Black Stars captain’s armband for games against  Angola, Niger

Accra, Nov.07, GNA – Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has chosen Jordan Ayew to captain the squad in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Jordan Ayew takes over from Mohammed Kudus, who captained the team in their last two matches against Sudan, where they failed to record a win, jeopardising their qualification chances.

According to Otto Addo, he had confidential talks with substantive captain Thomas Partey prior to the recent call-ups and explained to him why he was not on the recent squad.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Otto Addo revealed that he explained to Kudus why he had taken the decision to strip off the captain’s armband from him.

“The initiative was to make Thomas the captain to guide and lead the team. But once he is not there, I had to speak to Kudus, and I made the decision to make Jordan the captain in Thomas’ absence,” Addo said.

“I talked to Kudus for him to understand that I want him to grow into the role and be the second captain alongside Djiku,” the gaffer stated.

Otto Addo faces a stern task in qualifying Ghana to the next AFCON in Morocco as they face Angola on November 15, followed by a home game against Niger on November 18.

Ghana is currently third in Group F with two points and would have to win their last two games and hope Sudan loses their two encounters against Angola and Niger.
