Accra, Nov.7, GNA—Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo, has invited three home-based players for Ghana’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Otto Addo’s 25-man roster includes Samartex’s Isaac Afful, Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi, and Nations FC defender Razak Simpson.
Otto Addo on Thursday, November 7, 2024, announced his squad for the two final group matches of the 2025 AFCON, where Ghana’s chances of qualification appear bleak.
Mohammed Kudus, who captained the team in their last two matches, was named in the squad despite his difficult start for West Ham in the Premier League, where he is currently serving a suspension.
Jordan Ayew, who has been red-hot for Leicester City this season, has also been invited for the final round of qualifying matches.
Other first-team regulars who received a call-up include Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Alexander Djiku, Alidu Seidu, and Tariq Lamptey, among others.
However, substantive captain Thomas Partey, who missed out on the last qualifying matches, did not receive a call-up for the upcoming matches.
Coach Otto Addo’s side, who currently have two points in Group F, virtually needs a miracle to qualify for next year’s AFCON.
Angola tops the group with 12 points, followed by Sudan with seven points. Niger are at the bottom of the group with just a point.
The Black Stars would face Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Friday, November 15, 2024, and host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
