Cape Coast, Nov. 04, GNA – The 28th Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games, Mascot and Logo have been unveiled by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) under the auspices of the University of Cape Coast, the host university.
Dubbed: “Repositioning University sports for national development,” the most prominent student sporting gathering in the country will kick off from Friday, January 5 to Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Representing good fortune for sports competitions was a five and a half feet mascot of an Eagle with the inscription “Oguaa Suapon Koree,” symbolising the Eagle of UCC and the Game Logo.
The mascot and Logo serve as more than just a symbol of collective identity; it acts as a lively reminder of the vigour and enthusiasm that sports instil.
Beneath its playful exterior, the Mascot encapsulated the distinctive essence of UCC’s hospitality, resonating with students and the sporting community on principles of teamwork, cooperation, respect and fair play.
The intricate designs were meticulously created by skilled graphic designers Mr Nathaniel Ampah and Mrs Laura Doku from the Directorate of Public Affairs.
The launch of the biennial sporting extravaganza has initiated a festivity to unite athletes from various backgrounds and academic institutions, all united by a shared passion for sports and personal excellence.
In his address, Mr Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, President of GUSA, affirmed their preparedness to host the event despite potential challenges, especially due to the political timing.
To mitigate such obstacles, he urged the LOC to employ proactive and innovative strategies such as adapting to training schedules and exploring alternative training venues.
“Let us devise inventive methods to ensure that students’ drive, focus and preparations remain unwavering. Students must strike a balance between demanding academic and athletic responsibilities to pursue their aspirations,”he emphasied.
He commended UCC for their commitment to hosting the sporting extravaganza, providing a nurturing environment that inspires students to surpass boundaries.
He urged UCC to exhibit the utmost hospitality and camaraderie by ensuring seamless logistics, minimising distractions, and assuring students that they were valued and supported.
The GUSA envisioned a Games that continually inspire, evolve, and pave the way for new achievements, emphasising that resilience, teamwork and ambition will lead to great accomplishments for the nation.
Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the Vice-Chancellor of UCC, expressed the university’s readiness to host the most outstanding GUSA Games ever.
He highlighted UCC’s proud history of success in the Games, having emerged victorious multiple times, underscoring their determination to host and compete in the 2024 edition of the event, with their ultimate fulfilment in nurturing talents.
