Ho, Nov. 02, GNA – More men than women showed up at the premises of the GBC Volta Star Radio for a health screening event for breast, and prostate cancer.
The screening exercise forms part of activities to mark this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, organised by the Volta Star Chapter of the GBC Ladies, an Association of female workers of the State broadcaster.
This year’s screening was held on the theme “No One Should Suffer Cancer Alone,” and collaborating with the Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Red Cross Society, prostate screening was added to the event, and men of all ages trooped the broadcast station to be examined.
The men accounted for more than half of the over 200 people that attended the screening, and staff from the Teaching Hospital provided education on both diseases.
“The screening means I am going to live long,” an octogenarian remarked as he exited the prostate screening section.
Ms Patience Esi Tamakloe, the President of the Chapter said the initiative was to support women and men with the crucial service for free and described the turnout as being “very impressive”.
She said the GBC Ladies has been in existence for decades to help address issues pertaining to women, adding that the Association’s aimed at increasing the voices of women and breaking stereotypes.
“We want to be a role model for women to be able to speak out,” she said.
The medical exercise received support from corporate organisations including the pharmaceutical industry.
