Tamale, Nov 01, GNA – As part of the implementation of the Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) project, titled: “Finding the Missing Cases”, RUWA-Ghana, a non-government organisation, has mobilised the Ngarun community in the Sagnarigu Municipality for tuberculosis (TB) awareness and free screening of presumed TB patients.
The initiative, funded by the Global Fund through the Stop TB Partnership Ghana, featured series of educational and advocacy activities including the posting of TB Information, Education, and Communication posters in the community to encourage TB screening.
This was contained in a statement issued by RUWA-Ghana signed by Masud Aziz Rauf, its Executive Director, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale.
The statement said: “The technical team at RUWA-Ghana explained that this activity is part of the organisation’s planned efforts to conduct mass TB screenings aiming to contribute to the overarching goal of ending TB in Ghana by 2030.
It said RUWA-Ghana collaborated with the Sagnarigu Municipal Health Directorate and professional medical laboratories to ensure accurate testing and referral of TB cases for proper medical care and treatment, all provided free of charge.
It quoted Mr. Ibrahim Mutala, Leader of the technical team, who facilitated the event, as saying, “The treatment for TB is a comprehensive package provided by the Ghana Health Service through the National TB Control Programme (NTP).”
It said: “He also highlighted that there is a special treatment package available for drug-resistant tuberculosis cases (Enablers Package).
The statement said “The event in Ngarun saw active participation from the community in both screening, and sensitisation activities underscoring RUWA-Ghana’s commitment to the fight against TB and the community’s desire to remain vigilant and protected.
It said the fight against TB continued in the communities served by RUWA-Ghana and across the country adding “The organisation urges everyone to support this initiative and get screened for TB.”
