Tamale, Nov 01, GNA – Dr Abukari Bawah Abdulai, Director, University for Development Studies (UDS) Health Services, has advised women and men to visit health facilities regularly for breast cancer screening.
He said breast cancer was the most common form of cancer globally and accounted for 18.7 per cent of all cancers for both sexes at all ages.
He gave the advice at a two-day breast and cervical cancer awareness creation engagement and free screening exercise held at UDS campuses in Tamale and Nyankpala.
It was organised by Sung Foundation in collaboration with Collective Action Against Poverty in Ghana (CAAP -Ghana) and supported by UDS as part breast cancer awareness campaign this year.
Dr Abdulai emphasised that early diagnosis through screening was the most important step towards ensuring full treatment, hence there was the need for regular screening for the disease.
Dr John Terwase Kase, Medical Superintendent at UDS Clinic at Nyankpala Campus also advised members of the public to regularly visit the hospital for check up on the condition.
Hajia Fati Seidu, Executive Director, Sung Foundation, expressed need for men to support efforts to intensify the campaign against breast cancer at schools, and institutions to help prevent cancer cases in the country.
