Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), Oct. 30, GNA – Madam Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, has organised a free health screening for residents of Akropong-Akuapem.

She said that demonstrated her commitment to bringing healthcare delivery to the doorstep of the people.

This has been the legislator’s vision since assuming office, as she has previously organized several free health-related programmes, including “Feel the Boobs,” a free breast cancer screening, eye screenings, and many others.

During the event, Mr. Frank Adu, the Public Relations Officer for the MP, stated that plans were underway to extend the exercise to other parts of the constituency, although it is currently ongoing at the Upper Hills.

He assured communities in the Lower Hills to patiently wait for their turn and emphasised that the health team has put measures in place to extend the exercise to most communities before the end of 2024.

He said that healthcare delivery and basic education were top priorities for the MP and that she has been in regular contact with the Ghana Education Service division in Akropong to explore ways to support underprivileged children in the most remote communities who are of school age.

The MP was quoted as having conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to all and sundry who voted for her to realise her dream of becoming a Member of Parliament for the constituency.

He also added that Madam Dokua hails from Akropong-Akuapem and that even after her tenure as Member of Parliament, her doors would always be open to the people, as she would continue to help in any capacity to promote development in the Akuapem Ridge.

Interacting with Madam Harriet Larbi, the Leader of the Health Team, said the exercise has been well patronised by the people, saying, “if I am not mistaken, we have gotten closed to 3000.”

But according to the attendance list, out of 298 people, 125 were also screened for their eyes and given eyeglasses to aid their sight.

Madam Larbi also said this particular screening exercise was quite unique in the sense that apart from anemia, hypertension, HIV, cholesterol and sugar levels screenings, eye and malaria as well as general ailments were also screened.

She explained that malaria was considered because it was the season for the disease.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, many of the people could not hide their joy and excitement.

They expressed their gratitude to the MP for the support.

Madam Vida Asare, who participated in the screening, commended Madam Dokua for organizing the programme, stressing that the ailments addressed were concerns for many, especially since several individuals lack the means for treatment.

However, she expressed her discontent regarding the MP’s decision to relinquish her position to run for office elsewhere.

Again, Adwoa Yeboah, 15-year-old JHS pupil girl was full praise for the MP as she said her eyes were getting blurred with every passing day.

According to her she had been diagnosed with glaucoma years back and she wondered where her parents could get money from to purchase eye drops and glasses.

“God has indeed listened and granted my prayers,” she exclaimed.
