Tema, Oct. 31, GNA – The National Executive Committee of the Ghana China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) has congratulated Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the newly elected Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations Secretariat.
Madam Botchwey, who is Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, was over the weekend elected as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat at the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
GHACHIFA, in a statement signed by Dr Benjamin Anyagre, its General Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), stated that “we applaud your good self for attaining that prestigious position. Your Excellency, you are only the second lady in the history of the Commonwealth Secretariat and the first lady from Africa to ascend to that office.”
They commended her performance at the foreign affairs ministry and her principles of international cooperation.
The Association recalled Madam Botchwey’s advice to them during a courtesy call on her for them to lift the living standards of their Ghanaian members with the inspiration of the well-advanced Chinese experience.
The GHACHIFA executive said they looked forward to her stewardship, which would endeavour the promotion, peace, and wellbeing of the member grassroots citizens, especially within the Southern Hemisphere in the Commonwealth, who seek development to escape poverty.
“Kindly count on the support of the GHACHIFA as a nongovernmental bridge of friendship between the two peoples of Ghana and China,” it added.
