GPL Week 6: Hearts of Oak beat Young Apostles, Gold Stars go top

By Simon Asare

Accra, Oct.13, GNA – Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their first victory on the road this season after beating newly promoted side Young Apostles in Wenchi.

Emmanuel Amankwah and Hamza Issah were on the scoresheet for the Phobians, while Samuel Prempeh’s goal could only serve as a consolation.

Hearts of Oak, with their second win of the season, climbed to eighth place with eight points, while Young Apostles dropped into the relegation zone with five points.

With Asante Kotoko not in action this week, Bibiani Gold Stars leapfrogged them following their 1-1 draw with Nations FC at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

Faisal Charwetey gave Nations FC the lead in the first half, but a late strike from Gold Stars’ Kelvin Oppong ensured the spoils were shared at the end of the match.

Bibiani Gold Stars therefore move a point ahead of Kotoko, who have a game in hand, while Nations stay fifth on the table having maintained their unbeaten run.

Basake Holy Stars recorded their first victory of the season after defeating Karela United 1-0 at the CAM Park in Aiyinase.

Emmanuel Marfo and Samuel Adams scored the goals for the former Ghana Premier League champions, who have had a tough start this season.

Another side who recorded their first win of the season was Aduana Stars, who beat Dreams FC 2-0 at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park in Dormaa.

Defending GPL Champions FC Samartex had their match against Nsoatreman FC postponed due to heavy rains at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi.

Officials of both sides agreed for the match to be called off and would now be played on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 10:00 GMT.
