Agona Swedru (C/R), Oct 14, GNA – The Agona Swedru Magistrate’s Court has issued an interlocutory injunction order against Mrs Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West barring her from participating in activities related to the upcoming December 7 parliamentary elections.

The court presided over by Mr Victor Kusi, made the ruling after hearing the motion filed by the plaintiffs challenging Madam Morrison’s eligibility to contest the parliamentary seat

‘’Stay away from anything concerning December 7 election, including campaigning till the final determination of the substantive case’’ the court ordered.

It also directed the second defendant, the Election Commission (EC) of Agona West to halt the nomination process for Morrison as an Independent Parliamentary nominee till the matter was resolved.

‘’It is hereby ordered that the motion for interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st defendant from holding herself as a parliamentary candidate and the 2nd defendant from proceeding  with the nomination of Cynthia Mamle Morrison as an Independent parliamentary nominee until the matter is fully determined ‘’ the interim order by the Magistrate court on Friday 11 October, 2024, said.

The plaintiffs were also seeking reliefs from court challenging the residential status of the MP as non-resident in the Constituency.

The court has adjourned the substantive case to Tuesday 15 October for further proceedings.

The plaintiffs, Emmanuel Addison, Solomon Nyarko and Harrison K. Aglago , all residents of Agona Swedru have filed a suit questioning Morrison’s qualification to run in the December parliamentary election in Agona West.

They argued that Madam Morrison does not meet legal requirements to stand for the Agona West parliamentary seat.

The reliefs the plaintiffs were seeking in their suit included a declaration that Cynthia Morrison was unqualified to contest the December 7 elections, an order directing EC to disqualify Morrison from participating in the election and a directive to remove Morrison’s name from the list of eligible candidates for the December 2024 elections.
