Ekumfi-Ekrofor (C/R), Oct 9, GNA-The Chief Justice, Mrs Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has stated that loyalty and love for the nation must be the driving force of the electorates in casting their ballots on December 7.
She said the key to good governance was trust as stated in Chapter 4 verse 59 of the Holy Qur’an, where Allah commanded that a person should only hand over trust to those who were entitled to, based on justice and honesty, for the nation’s progress.
Mrs Torkornoo gave the advice in an address delivered on her behalf by Justice Hajia (Mrs) Nabeela Naeema Wahab Hammond at the 42nd National Annual Ijtema’a (Convention) of the Lajna lmaillah (Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association) of Ghana at Ekumfi-Ekrofor in the Central Region.
The event was on the theme: “Beginning a New Ahmadiyya Centenary in Ghana: The Role of Lajna lmaillah towards Peace and Nation Building,” with the Nasirat theme: “Enhancing the Knowledge and Faith of the Nasirat in the New Era”.
The annual convention afforded the participants the opportunity to congregate for spiritual enhancement and increase their knowledge of Islam.
Justice Mrs Torkornoo commended the leaders of Lajna Imaillah Ghana for deliberating on issues towards peace and nation-building in this year’s election.
She said the electorate must select candidates of political parties who had the nation at heart and would help the nation to progress.
She said as members of Lajna Imaillah, they had an obligation to continuously promote peace, and display loyalty and love for the nation in all their endeavours.
The Chief Justice further urged them to embrace divergent views and hold their moral values high, not forgetting that the Islamic religion urges them to be patient in times of difficulty.
She urged members of the Association to persuade their husbands, brothers and sisters and other members of the society to be just and honest, particularly in this election year so they could entrust the keys of governance to a candidate who could perform well.
Hajia Anisa Nasirudeem Iddrisu (Sadr Lajna Ghana) in her address, stated that Lajna Imal’llah was established to afford Ahmadi women the opportunity to help spread Islam.
She said from a humble beginning in India, Lajna Imal’llah, which stands for Hand Maids of Allah, was currently found in over 200 countries across the world with a membership of 42,663 women and girls as of July 2024.
According to her, the annual convention afforded the members the platform to congregate for spiritual enhancement and also socialise, build sisterly love and plan their future while spreading the message of the Reformer and Imam Mahadi.
According to Hajia Nasirudeem Iddrisu, their faith also obliged them to sacrifice their lives for the course of their country, saying “Islam taught peace and total submission to the will of Allah hence the need for all of them to be obedient to the laws of the country and maintain the peace at all times.”
She urged the members to help preserve the peace and increase their dedication to the service of their faith and the nation, adding “We are in an election year and we must take an active but peaceful part in our democracy.”
Nana Dr Ama Amissah II, Queen mother of Mankessim Traditional Area and Nana Oye Bampoe-Addo, a legal practitioner were among the dignities who addressed the gathering to encourage them to contribute to a peaceful election.
