Obuasi (Ash), Oct. 08, GNA – Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, has affirmed government’s unwavering commitment to support AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, to provide quality healthcare services to the people in the area.

He emphasized that the Government firmly believed that quality healthcare should be readily available to all individuals, and would therefore, continue to back AngloGold Ashanti in its mission to ensure exceptional healthcare for all persons, irrespective of their circumstances.

“The government’s objective is to eliminate barriers and directly deliver essential health resources to the people,” he stated during a health clinic organised by AngloGold Ashanti for residents of Adansi Odumase in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region.

Participants underwent screenings for conditions such as hypertension, hepatitis, sickle cell anemia, typhoid, malaria, and diabetes, with complimentary dental and eye care services.

Eyeglasses were distributed to those with visual impairments, and mosquito nets were given out to shield individuals from harmful mosquitoes.

Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager, of AngloGold Ashanti, said the aim was to empower individuals and advance communities through its health-focused 10-year Socioeconomic Development Plan (SEDP), with free screenings being a key component.

He said AngloGold Ashanti would persist in empowering individuals with knowledge and resources to take charge of their health, detect potential health issues early, prevent them from escalating, and enhance overall health outcomes in their host communities.

Since 2021, the mining company has organized 15 health clinics, benefiting approximately 33,000 individuals, Mr. Agyei stressed, and called on individuals to take full advantage of every free screening opportunity provided by AngloGold Ashanti.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the company was in the process of constructing state-of-the-art health facilities with cutting-edge equipment and amenities in various host communities.

He said the company had renovated and upgraded the Anyinam Clinic to a health centre, while building another health centre to serve the people of New Dokyiwaa/Binsere communities, as well as expanding the Akrokerri health centre to include a newly constructed surgical theater and constructing a clinic at Apitikooko.

Mr Agyei said the mining company would continue its health outreach programmes to bring healthcare services directly to the people within and beyond its operational areas.

Mrs. Faustina Amissah, District Chief Executive, praised the mining company for its initiative and urged individuals to prioritise their health by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Several participants expressed gratitude to AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine for their consistent support in ensuring their overall well-being.
