Kumasi Oct. 03, GNA – The Energy Commission, has as part of safeguarding the safety and integrity of electrical installations nationwide, awarded 193 new electricians in the Ashanti Region with certificates.
In total, 228 people sat for the May-June 2024 licensing examinations in the region, and more than 85 percent (193) passed out successfully.
Mr. Fred Agyei-Brobbey, Senior Officer, Energy Commission, indicated that in the last decade, a total of 16,000 certified electricians and inspectors have been recognized with permits across Ghana.
At the graduation ceremony in Kumasi, he noted that beginning next year, the process of certification would be fully digitized.
The Commission had developed the Installation Completion Certificate (ICC) application, which would streamline certifications by allowing professionals to use certificates digitally, thus reducing cost and enhancing data-driven monitoring for both practitioners and regulators.
The ceremony was on the theme: “Electrical Wiring Goes Digital in Ghana: Enhancing Safety and Access for All”.
According to Mr Agyei-Brobbey, the digitization modernized the certification process, making it more efficient, transparent and accessible for certified electricians, inspectors and facility owners.
Digitizing these certificates ensures accurate record keeping and fosters compliance with national safety standards, he added.
He said the rigorous examination and certification process ensured that Ghana had skilled electricians who held the highest standards of professionalism and safety.
These certified electricians are instrumental in driving progress within the energy sector as well as in achieving the national goal of providing reliable, safe and sustainable electricity for all.
Mr. Agyei-Brobbey observed that certified electricians contributed to reducing the risks associated with electrical malpractices and accidents, which threatened lives and property.
He encouraged the new electricians to embrace ongoing training to stay at the forefront of technological advancement.
