Tema, Oct 02, GNA- Madam Gifty Offeibea Koranteng Sena, the Acting Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Tema Office, has iterated the call on Ghanaians to cherish peace during the election as tourism thrives in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
Madam Sena said nobody would want to be in a chaotic environment, be it a Ghanaian or a foreigner; therefore, it was important to maintain the peace the country was enjoying.
She made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on World Tourism Day, which is commemorated annually on September 27, with the GTA observing the day on the theme “tourism and peace.”
She said the theme was carefully selected to show the link between peace and tourism and encourage and educate Ghanaians not to sacrifice their peace for the interest of any politician or political party.
She also reminded Ghanaians that when there was chaos or war, employment, foreign exchange, and infrastructure would be affected.
Madam Sena explained that when there was peace and tourists visited the country, governments would construct roads leading to infrastructural improvement, stressing that when there is war, these things get destroyed.
“There won’t be any peace for somebody to even think of visiting an attraction site. We are all Ghanaians; elections will come and go. When the day for voting is near, visit your voting site, cast your vote, and move to your home peacefully. There’s no need to go and promote any political party on the day.”
She stressed the need for people to be mindful of their language in their quest to promote their parties in order not to inflame passions.
“Everybody has the right to swing their arm. By swinging your arm, make sure your arm doesn’t hit anybody. So, in doing your politics or your campaigns, make sure that you don’t hit or whatever that you are saying doesn’t hit your neighbour or infringe on other people’s rights,” she said.
She said peace must be upheld before, during, and after the elections, noting that teasing people for losing elections could generate confrontations and clashes; therefore, everybody must respect the rights of others.
