Mahogany Consult announces second round of Scholarships for Communication Students

Accra, Oct 01, GNA – Mahogany Consult in partnership with the Future Communicators Foundation (FCF) Scholarship, is offering scholarships for some students at the School of Communication Studies, Wisconsin International University College-Ghana (WIUC-GH).  

The Scholarships cover two years of tuition fees and mentoring opportunities for third and fourth-year students at the School of Communication Studies, WIUC-GH.  

A statement issued by Mahogany Consult, a Public Relations, Events and Change Management consultancy in Ghana, copied to the Ghana News Agency said this was the second consecutive year students from WIUC-GH would benefit from the Scholarship.  

FCF is a non-profit organisation, based in Canada, that provides knowledge and networking opportunities, student scholarships and awards programmes that elevate and empower aspiring professionals and young leaders in communications across the world.  

The statement said the Scholarships were focused on a yearly theme addressing issues in social responsibility, sustainability, climate action and social justice.  

For 2024, the theme is “Communicating the Climate Crisis: Motivating and Measuring Behavioural Change”.  

It said to participate, students were required to create a campaign on the theme using inexpensive resources to inspire action and drive meaningful behavioral change in Ghana.  

It noted that student entries would go through a judging process and awardees would receive their two-year tuition fee and mentoring opportunities with Mahogany Consult. 

Madam Millicent Akunor, the Communications Manager at Mahogany Consult, highlighted the firm’s commitment to the project, stating, “We are excited to facilitate this scholarship opportunity once again and look forward to the innovative campaigns students will develop to tackle climate challenges”.  

“At Mahogany Consult, we believe in nurturing the next generation of communicators and supporting the growth of the communications industry in Ghana, West Africa and beyond,” she said. 

“Sustainability is one of the most pressing topics in today’s society,” added Mr Allard W. van Veen, Founder of The PR Trust, the 501(c)(6) non-profit organization that administers the Future Communicators Foundation.  

“I believe that PR professionals can play a prominent role in promoting sustainability.  

“We hope that the scholarship will help to develop students’ social conscience and encourage them to make an impact, in terms of promoting a fair and sustainable world,” he said. 

Professor Kwame Karikari, a Senior Faculty Member at the School of Communication Studies, WIUC-GH, said “This scholarship not only nurtures the next generation of communicators but also encourages them to contribute meaningfully to the pressing issue of climate change.  

“Last year’s students presented innovative solutions, and we expect this year’s cohort to continue that trend, using communication as a powerful tool for environmental change.” 

The deadline for application is 31 October 2024.  

The winners will be announced on 12 November 2024.

Dr Orleans–Lindsay appointed first Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University

Cape Coast, Oct. 01, GNA – The Governing Council of Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) has appointed Dr James Condua Orleans–Lindsay as the first Chancellor of the University. 

His tenure commences on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, and extends until Sunday, September 30, 2029. 

Being a globally acclaimed TEDx speaker, and distinguished business tycoon, Dr Orleans-Lindsay stands out as one of Ghana’s most revered business luminaries. 

He holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of JL Properties and serves as the Executive Chairman of JL Holdings, with diverse interests ranging from real estate to agriculture. 

Dr Orleans-Lindsay extensive business portfolio encompasses sectors such as construction, beverages, security, bakery, supplies, agriculture, aquaculture and consultancy across Africa and Europe. 

JL Properties is Ghana’s leading Real Estate firm providing bespoke residential affordable luxury homes within prime areas in Accra. 

JL Properties, an Accra – based multi-purpose organization, was incorporated in 2011 with excellent financial, project and strategic management.

Dr Orleans-Lindsay is an alumnus of St Peter’s Senior Secondary School (Akwatia) where he obtained his O’Level Certificate and holds an A’ Level Certificate from St Augustine’s College, Cape Coast. 

Thereafter he schooled at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biochemistry.  

He furthered his education at the University of Salford, that earned him his Master of Science (MSc) in Construction Management and later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Construction Management from the University of Hertfordshire. 

He holds a Certification Programme in Real Estates Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). 

Besides that, he holds a Certification Programme in Real Estate Development from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. 

Dr Lindsay is an avid sports enthusiast, having previously held a position as a Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak Football Club and currently possessing a CAF Coaching certificate ‘A.’ 

He also serves on the Board of Governors at the All-Nations University in Koforidua in the Eastern Region. 

Dr Orleans–Lindsay brings a wealth of entrepreneurial and academic qualifications to his new role. 

Recognised with numerous accolades for his entrepreneurial accomplishments and contributions to society, his work embodies innovation, leadership, and a dedication to effecting positive change. 

He previously served as the president of the Ghana Association of Young Entrepreneurs and currently holds the position of Chief patron for the Cape Coast Youth Development Association. 

Born in Cape Coast and raised in Koforidua and Accra, Dr Orleans–Lindsay is a devout Christian, married to Nana Ama Abrefi Lindsay and blessed with two daughters and two sons. 

In his leisure time, he enjoys delving into autobiographies of notable achievers and watching documentaries.
