Keta (VR), Sept. 30, GNA-The Keta Municipal Health Directorate in the Volta Region has announced plans to embark on a Measle-Rubella vaccination exercise for children between nine months and five years.
The exercise, which would commence from Wednesday, October 2 to October 9, is targeted at vaccinating over five million children across the country.
Mrs Rebecca Tehoda Zormelo Dogbeda, a Principal Community Health Nurse at the Keta Health Directorate, in an engagement, explained that the exercise would be extended to every community within the area.
She noted that a nationwide campaign was organised by the Ministry of Health to preserve the progress made in previous years to mitigate the situation.
She said trained health workers from the Health Directorate and community volunteers would visit schools, churches, markets, lorry stations, homes, and other public places between 0700 hours to 1700 hours daily for the exercise.
“Our target is to get over 12,000 children vaccinated against the disease within the Municipality and the public must assist us to achieve this target,” she added.
Mrs Zormelo also indicated that as part of the integrated approach, the campaign would also provide vitamin A supplements to all children to address vitamin A deficiency, particularly for children under 5 years who were most vulnerable.
She urged all parents and guardians to cooperate with the teams to achieve the results.
The Volta Region, the GNA observed, recorded eight measles cases as of August this year.
The figure, according to experts, was below the epidemic threshold but remained a cause of worry that required immediate steps.
