Ho, Sept 30, GNA – Simone Giger, the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana has called on women to commit to supporting each other in elevating the outlook of the gender.
She said in an era of women empowerment, it was crucial to intertwine ideas and strengths to help break towering stereotyping and gender mainstreaming.
The Ambassador made the call at the 2024 Asogli Yam Festival Women’s Day Celebrations, where she was special guest of honour.
She commended the achievements of womanhood, and said through unity and working together, the gender could attain the heights sought in society.
“As we honour women today, let us also reflect on how we can continue empowering them through better access to resources and opportunities. I urge you all to make a deliberate effort to network and support each other.
“The works that you all do in your individual corners and your valuable experiences must be connected and made useful to your fellow women. Let us not only celebrate the past but also look forward to a future where women take their rightful place as leaders and innovators,” Ms Giger stated.
The Asogli Yam festival celebrates the yam staple, and the Ambassador highlighted the role of women in the survival of humanity, remaining a crucial source of life and continuity.
She appreciated the Asogli State for establishing the women’s day celebration as a permanent feature of the festival and urged womenfolk to make the most of such initiatives.
“I am impressed by the organisation of this event and would like to commend everyone involved, particularly the Asogli Yam Festival planning committee, for dedicating a day to Ghana’s strong and resilient women.
“Women have long been the backbone of agriculture in Ghana, including in yam cultivation. Women’s efforts in developing agriculture and beyond have played a key role in protecting families, strengthening communities, and building societies.
“Whether in preparing fields, planting, or nurturing families back home, women’s influence is critical-yet often overlooked. That is why this celebration is both timely and essential.
“Your contributions must be celebrated, and your stories heard. I urge every woman here today to embrace this celebration and to make full use of platforms like this to tell your stories. It is no longer time to be modest-this is your time to shine,” the Ambassador stated.
Mama Akua Deh, the Paramount Queen of Asogli State, was present at the Ceremony and spent time encouraging women unto excellence while urging continuous support for the State.
The event was held at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, and Professor Lydia Aziato, Vice Chancellor of the University was among notable speakers and engaged with hundreds of students among womenfolk presents.
Female traditional leaders from parts of the country also honoured the event, which featured heavily notable individuals of the gender leading academic other roles in society.
There were cooking shows, and skills marathons to empower women in industry, held simultaneously in various communities.
This year’s yam festival is on the theme “Lets Ensure Freedom and Justice for All,” and the women’s day event, one of several impactful additions to the annual event, was held in the various divisions of Asogli.
An Anti-Corruption Day, and a summit of Ewe traditional leaders in West Africa, are part of the highlights of the month-long festival.
The grand durbar would come off on Saturday, October 05, 2024, at the Ho Jubilee Park.
