Battor (V/R), Sept. 30, GNA – Togbe Hevi Borbordzi VII, the Manklalo of the Battor Traditional Area, has praised Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, for his exceptional leadership, vision, and commitment to developing the constituency.
Togbe Hevi noted that Ablakwa’s oversight parliamentary duties as Chairman of the Parliamentary Assurance Committee (PAC) and his recent corruption expose’ demonstrate his dedication to Ghana’s development.
The traditional ruler also acknowledged Ablakwa’s intervention in supporting victims of the Akosombo and Kpong dams’ spillage, which devastated Mepe and surrounding communities in the constituency.
Togbe Hevi however urged the government to expedite construction of the resettlement housing units in the six affected communities, providing decent accommodation facilities to victims whose buildings were destroyed by the floods.
“The situation is very frustrating,” said Ms. Sophia Abbah, Camp Leader at Mepe Degorme Camp Two.
“Heat and congestion in the tents, water challenges, food shortages, and lack of medication continue to be our major headaches.”
The traditional leader pledged his support to Ablakwa’s efforts to uplift the district’s image, urging citizens to reward him in the December elections.
“The government has not done much for the disaster victims,” Togbe Hevi lamented.
“But for Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa, Corporate Ghana, NGOs, religious and church organizations, individuals, and institutions, the disaster victims would have suffered more.”
He appealed to the government to show greater leadership by addressing the needs and concerns of all disaster victims.
At Mepe Degorme Camp Two, 92 households comprising 237 individuals still live in Volta River Authority-constructed tents.
The situation is similar at Mepe Degorme Camp One, where over 200 victims reside.
