Accra, Sept. 19, GNA – The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Ga South Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), has held its maiden meeting as part of preparations for ensuring peaceful and transparent elections in the upcoming 2024 general election.
The meeting, which took place at the Ga South Municipal Assembly, brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies aimed at fostering a violence-free election in the municipality.
Mr. George Obeng, the Ga-South Municipal Director of the NCCE, emphasised the importance of educating the electorates on the need for peaceful conduct during the elections.
He urged political parties and their supporters to engage in civil discourse and avoid inflammatory language that could incite violence.
“The role of the IPDC is to serve as a platform where political parties can address concerns amicably before, during, and after the elections. It is essential that we all commit to peaceful engagements to safeguard the democratic process,” Mr. Obeng stated.
Mr. Isaac Tawiah, the Chairman of the Ga South IPDC, echoed similar sentiments and called for cooperation among all political parties, reiterating the committee’s commitment to mediating any disputes that may arise.
He stressed the need for constant dialogue between the various political factions in the area.
Mr. Tawiah further stated that the priority of the IPDC was to ensure that the 2024 general election is conducted in a manner that reflects the will of the people, stressing that the committee would remain committed to transparency and fairness throughout the electoral process.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to intensify public education campaigns, particularly in areas identified as potential flashpoints, while the NCCE and IPDC pledged to work closely with the security agencies to ensure the safety of voters and electoral officials during the election.
