Accra, Sept. 16, GNA – Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, the Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, says Ghana needs peace and without peace citizens may not be able to worship freely without any interference.
He said without peace, Ghanaians would not be able to unite and bring development and progress to the motherland.
Maulvi Bin Salih was speaking at the 29th Annual Conference of the Greater Accra Region of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Accra.
The conference was on the theme: “Unity in Diversity: A Key to Nation Building.”
The Conference brought about 2,000 Ahmadis to the Accra Zone to deliberate on issues beneficial to the Mission and take stock of their activities.
The Ameer alleged that politicians were fueling some of the disputes the country had witnessed over the period.
“Some of our politicians are the ones who beat the war drums every now and then throughout the country and they beat their chest openly to tell us that yes, they are the ones beating those drums of war,” he said.
He called on politicians to be humble, honest and accountable to the people who voted them into power.
“It is time we draw the attention of our politicians to the fact that what we want from them is humility and accountability,” he said.
He alleged that some of the politicians have the audacity to stare at the citizens in the face and tell them that on December 7, some would go to election centres to vote but they would not have their lives to go back to their homes.
The Ameer said instead of using the wealth, God had given them to improve the living conditions of the people and to provide for the poor, “what we find this day is corruption, which has become the order of the day.”
The Ameer said corruption only helped only a few individuals to amass wealth to the detriment of the larger community and it was now time for such politicians to know that they had no right to behave that way.
He therefore added his voice to the call for a State of emergency on the ban on illegal mining (Galamsey) in the country.
He said the menace had polluted most of the water bodies in the country and as part of the Galamsey activities all the arable land had been destroyed.
