Computerised School Selection: Akatsi South GES warns of unapproved fees

By Agbaxode Emmanuel

Akatsi (VR), Sept. 4, GNA-Management of the Akatsi South Education Directorate has decried authorising any fees for the Computerised School Selection and Placement Exercise (CSSPS).

The Directorate has therefore warned basic school head teachers, proprietors of private schools, and members of the public that it had not done any authorisation.

This was in response to some reports that had been channelled to the Directorate regarding the charging of unapproved fees by some school authorities.

This alert was stated in a communique signed by Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education.

He warned Heads of Basic Schools to desist from the act or face sanction.

“The Directorate has received reports from concerned parents that the prospective candidates are being charged between GHC 25 to GHC 50.00 for the forms. Management would like to put on record that no such monies have been approved.”

The statement reminded all Headteachers that the School Selection and Placement had been in existence for some time now and had never been paid for, adding, “Nothing has changed so far.”

Mr Ayaana also called on parents and guardians to report any such cases to the Directorate for action.

The CSSPS was implemented in 2005 to automate the process of placing students in senior high schools and technical institutes after completing basic education exams.

Before CSSPS, placement was done manually which had challenges handling large volumes of students and was susceptible to abuse.

CSSPS uses students’ raw scores in core subjects to determine placements and allowed choices across regions.
