Bolgatanga, Sept 4, GNA – The Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML) has donated a haemodialysis machine and essential consumables to the Upper East Regional Hospital, to support the provision of dialysis services to clients.

In addition, it donated a dialysis manual bed/chair, 240 hollow fiber dialysis HF19, 240 bloodlines, 480 fistula needles 16G, 120 gallons of acid concentrate dialysate and 240 gallons bicarbonate cartridge.

The items, valued at GH₵466,505.00, was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company and a response to an appeal made to the company by Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, Paramount Chief of the Talensi District Traditional Area, to support the dialysis unit of the hospital.

The CNML is a subsidiary of the Shandong Gold, a Chinese mining firm, which has acquired license to start an open-cast (surface) gold mine project in the Talensi District with an initial Life of Mine of 15 years.

The company is expected to pour its first gold before the end of 2024 and the mine is expected to generate about 150 million tonnes of ore, resulting in five million ounces of gold within the period of production.

Presenting the items in Bolgatanga, Mr Feng Baoli, the Vice President in charge of General Administration, Public Relations and Security, CNML, expressed optimism that the gesture would provide life-saving treatment to clients and contribute to improve healthcare delivery particularly for patients with kidney problems.

“As we transition into operations and production, we are eager to strengthen our partnerships with all stakeholders. Your support is crucial as we strive to realise our shared goals for development; by working together, we can create a sustainable future that benefits not only our company but also the communities we are privileged to be a part of,” he added.

On his part, Tongraan Nanlebegtang, said the establishment of the dialysis centre was very timely considering the number of patients the hospital received from the region and neighbouring regions as well as neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso and Togo.

He commended CNML for the swift response to his request, adding that the gesture showed the company’s readiness to work with relevant stakeholders to help the people of the region and believed the donation would help to improve healthcare delivery.

“We want to thank them (CNML) for this effort, and we pray that their company will continue to mark us on their social agenda list and ensure that they can help our communities whenever they are called upon,” he added.

In a speech read on his behalf, Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih, the Upper East Regional Minister, lauded the gesture of CNML, aimed at contributing to strengthening the healthcare system in the region and called on stakeholders and companies to emulate the move.

The campaign to establish a dialysis centre at the hospital started a few months ago due to the numerous kidneys cases the hospital was receiving and financial burden clients had to travel to Tamale for the service.

According to management, the current donation had increased the number of dialysis machines at the hospital to four and service provision had already begun at the centre although it was yet to be officially commissioned.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the management of the hospital, Dr Saanwie Aiden, the Medical Director of the hospital, thanked the Tongraan Nanlebegtang and CNML for the support and noted that it would boost the provision of dialysis services in the hospital.

He appealed to the mining company to adopt the dialysis centre as part of its corporate social responsibility and appealed to other organisation and individuals to support the centre to ensure sustainability.
