Deceased family demands $10 million compensation from Brazilian government

Sunyani, Sept. 3, GNA-The family and relatives of a 39-year-old Ghanaian migrant, who died in Sao Paulo, Brazil, are demanding $10 million compensation from the Brazilian government for the loss. 

According to them, media reports suggest the late Evans Osei Owusu, a native of Nkoranza in the Bono East Region, died under mysterious circumstances in Sao Paulo, en route to Mexico on August 13, this year. 

The deceased had earlier received medical care at the airport before he died, the family said. The family requested that the body should be persevered, and not buried, until further communication and directions. 

Mr George Annor, Nana Twumasi Ampofo, Mr Kingsford Ohene Dwira and Mr Robert 
Benefo, the deceased family members, made the demand in a letter of notice filed by NanaObiri Boahen, a legal practitioner of the Enso Nyame Ye Chambers in Sunyani. 

A copy of the letter titled “Demand for Payment of adequate in respect of the unexplained circumstances surrounding the death of Evans Osei Wusu, was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani. 

“Several attempts made to acquire firsthand knowledge of the circumstances leading to the death of Evans Osei Wusu still remain unresolved and unexplained. 

“Respectfully, our clients are, by this letter, demanding $10 million dollars from the Brazilian government as compensation. 

“We are routing this, our request through the Embassy of Ghana; Brazil and the Brazilian Embassy; in Ghana to work in tandem; to co-ordinate; co- operate, with our leading partner Nana Obiri Boahen to work out the modalities towards the acquisition and receipt of the compensation being demanded,” the letter stated.
