Obuasi (Ash), Aug. 30, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, has organised a two-day capacity-building workshop for 60 local contractors in Obuasi to empower them to win more contracts from the company.
The training programme, dubbed: “The business supply chain development project, is a key component of AngloGold’s 10-year socio-economic development plan, rolled out in collaboration with the Absa Bank Ghana and the Minerals Commission.
Seen as a game changer targeted at readying the local contractors to compete favourably with their foreign counterparts, the participants were taken through banking culture, tax compliance, digitalisation, Absa payment platforms, procurement processes for goods and services, Mineral Commission’s regulation and registration processes.
Mr Edmond Oduro Agyei, the Community Relations Manager at AngloGold Obuasi Mine, said the training was to help local businesses create more jobs to diversify the Obuasi economy, taking cognizance of the company’s impact of its 2014 care and maintenance phase.
He emphasized the company’s commitment towards sustainability, which implied making the lives of the people within its operational areas better.
“We implemented our 10-year socio-economic development plan ostensibly to diversify the local economy and make the lives of our people better”, he stated.
Mr Aboagye Ohene Adu, the Chairman of the Obuasi Local Contractors Association, commended AngloGold for the support, stressing that it was a demonstration of its resolve to empower local businesses to be more competitive.
He said the Association had had a healthy relationship with the company over the years, which had created opportunities for members.
