2024 Election: Impact of smaller parties may not be felt – Expert

By Evans Worlanyo Ameamu

Keta (V/R), Aug 30, GNA – Governance expert Anthony Dagadu has said that the impact of smaller parties and independent aspirants in the December polls would not have any effect on the election results.

He said majority of Ghanaians had already made up their minds to vote for the two major political parties – the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Dagadu, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency about the increasing number of independent aspirants picking nomination forms for the election, stated that either NPP or NDC would win the December polls.

“I was surprised the Electoral Commission has announced last week that over 20 independent aspirants have picked presidential forms to contest,” he stated.

However, he noted that some of them might not be able to file or return the forms.

He predicted that most of the smaller parties or independent candidates would not be able to pull more than two per cent of the total ballots, and they must be advised to join forces with the bigger parties to make an impact.

He charged all political parties to focus on their messages and engage in peaceful campaigns devoid of insults before, during and after the elections.

He urged the Electoral Commission to be on top of issues and deliver successful and clean election results to avoid speculations and agitations that could lead to violence.

Mr Dagadu appealed to chiefs, stakeholders, political communicators, and youth groups, among others, to start preaching peace.
