Profile of Levinia Addae-Mensah, new Executive Director of WANEP

Accra, Aug 30, GNA – Mrs Levinia Addae-Mensah is the new Executive Director of the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP). 

She took over the baton from Dr Chukwuemeka B. Eze at a grand ceremony on 20th August, in Accra. 

Prior to Mrs Addae-Mensah’s elevation to her new portfolio, she was the Deputy Executive Director of WANEP. 

She is the first female Director at the WANEP. 

Mrs Addae-Mensah is a peace and security practitioner with 30 years experience in Conflict Prevention, Conflict Management and Peace Support Operations.  

Her passion in peacebuilding has driven her to work in extremely dynamic and volatile contexts such as in Rwanda, Burundi, Liberia, and the Ivory Coast. 

In addition, she has extensive experience working in different capacities on projects in Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, The Gambia, Senegal, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark.  

Mrs Addae-Mensah’s vast experience in peace and security range from developing and managing projects on Human Rights and Justice, Education and Peacebuilding, designing dialogue processes with focus on Mediation and Negotiation, working with children and youth and designing, developing and delivering a range of capacity building programmes for different stakeholders.  

With both theoretical and practical experiences, she has contributed to the design and development of various training programmes across the African continent and has served as trainer, facilitator and resource person in various training programmes at regional, continental and international levels. 

Mrs Addae-Mensah’s professional career began with International Alert in the United Kingdom (UK), where she worked in different capacities on projects and programmes in Europe and in the Great Lakes region of Africa.  

She also occupied various positions during her seven-year work at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), including initiating Small Arms Light Weapons (SALW) research and capacity programme across the 15 ECOWAS Member States. 

She currently works with WANEP as the Programme Director and Deputy Executive Director with responsibility for development and implementation of WANEP programmes across all 15 Member States of ECOWAS. 

She is married with a son.
