Yendi (NR) Aug 28, GNA – Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon has banned the establishment of the new Kulkpuni controversial market in the Yendi Municipality of Northern Region.
The people of Kulkpuni had proposed to establish a market coinciding with Sambu market in the Mion District, which is less than four kilometres apart.
A couple of weeks ago, there was confusion between the people of Sambu and Zugbei in the Mion District over a parcel of land that was used for some projects.
Just when peace consultations were underway, the people went ahead to propose the establishment of a new market, which the Ya-Na has intervened to stall when he met the people of Sambu, Jarido, Kulkpuni and members of Yendi Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and Mion District Municipal Security Council (DISEC) at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
He said he had already met the Saboba Chief and his people and some of his sub-chiefs at the Gbewaa Palace to find solutions to the problem between Sambu and Zugbei people and the Sambu market was for both Dagombas, Konkombas.
He said other traders from Tamale, Kumasi Yendi, Bimbilla attended it and there was no reason for another market at Kulkpuni which was close to Sambu and called on the Jarido chief to visit the Mion Regent for peace and unity to prevail in the area for more development as it was not only Dagombas that lived in Dagbon.
He said there were Bassares, Konkombas and Chokosis who lived in Dagbon with their respective chiefs to man the areas, which also resulted in intermarriages between Dagombas and Konkpmbas and there was no need for them to have conflicts.
Ya-Na called on the Yendi MUSEC and Mion DISEC to ensure the construction of the project on the plot the Zugbei people said was theirs and advised them to be wary of those fomenting troubles between them.
Alhaji Hammed Abubakar Yussuf the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive said in establishing a market there was the need to involve the Assembly for its Planning Officers to do the proper planning.
