Sefwi-Obrayeko (WN/R), Aug. 22, GNA – The Chirano Gold Mines Limited, a subsidiary of Asante Gold Corporation, has commissioned a modern small town water project for the people of Obrayeko, a farming community in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
The project, according to the company, was in line with its commitment to improving the lives of the people in its operational communities.
Speaking at the official commissioning, Mr Stephen Asante Yamoah, General manager for the Company, said they believed that access to clean and potable water was not just a necessity, but a fundamental right.
“It is with this conviction that the company has provided water system for all of its 20 catchment communities, including Obrayeko,” he said.
He explained that the facility would ensure that every household could connect to a safe and consistent water supply, directly improving the health and well-being of community members.
According to the General Manager, the company had listened attentively to the concerns of residents regarding their request for the provision of potable drinking water and a truck to support the transportation of farmers and their produce.
Mr Yamoah said the company had acquired a piece of land, and that work was underway to develop a football field for the community.
That, he explained, would help provide the teeming youth and the community at large a space to meet and engage in healthy activities while strengthening the unity among them.
Nana Akwasi Buru, Chief of Akaaso, who is also the Abakomahene of Chirano area, on behalf of the people commended the Asante Gold Corporation for their continued support for their catchment communities.
He believed the water system would go a long way to support the community to access potable drinking water easily, saying, “I am particularly happy about the fact that residents, especially school children will not have to walk miles in search of water.”
