Accra, July 24, GNA – Dr Irene Stella Agyenim-Baoteng, Vice Chairperson of the Public Services Commission, has launched her book on career and professional growth titled “100 Career Nuggets – Keeping It Punchy”.
The book detailed the author’s 38 year’s life experiences and lessons on career growth and professional development, which individuals and corporations could learn from to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency at the workplace and personal lives.
Dr Agyenim-Boateng said she was motivated to write the book as a form of reference and go-to manual for individuals and professionals who aimed to enhance their productivity and growth.
She said it was also to be a blueprint drawn from the various spaces and platforms she had shared teaching and mentoring people, especially young individuals, on how to maximise their professional growth and productivity.
“Personally, I have always had the desire to write a book on career and professional growth from my experiences in this space having been a human resource development practitioner and an executive leader rising through the ranks to the top over the years.
“Also, I like giving career advice, getting into issues of gender, the disadvantaged, and all that. Those are my passions. To talk to people and give them advice on career, on education, and everything,” she added.
Dr Agyenim-Boateng said some of the career lessons contained in the book were lessons on personal attitude and character traits at the workplace, personal branding, interpersonal relationships and communication and how to strategically position oneself at the workplace.
She said when readers steadily applied what was in the book in their personal lives and careers, they would become productive.
“How far you can go in your career is dependent on a good combination of your aptitude, your knowledge, and your attitude, your behaviour. And if you don’t know how to manage that balance, you may be doing hard work, you may not be doing smart work,” she added.
Dr Agyenim-Boateng urged professionals to be committed to developing their soft skills in addition to broadening their knowledge and expertise in their career path to be successful.
Dr. Agyenim-Boateng assumed duty at the Public Services Commission on October 2, 2023.
Prior to her appointment, she was the Advisor at the Office of the Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and also the former Deputy Chief Executive (Services) of the VRA.
Dr. Agyenim-Boateng is a highly qualified C-Suite Human Resource Executive with several years of Senior leadership and Board experience.
She has worked across various industries and sectors, including Education, Telecommunication, Insurance, Consultancy and Energy.
