2026 FIFA WCQ: Black Stars seek revenge against Comoros after shaky start

By Simon Asare

Accra, Nov. 20, GNA – The Black Stars of Ghana head into their second match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against familiar foes Comoros, who famously defeated them at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Both sides are heading into Tuesday’s clash following their impressive start to the group opener, which saw Ghana beat Madagascar 1-0 while the Comoros defeated the Central African Republic 4-2 in the other group fixture.

The Black Stars, after their unconvincing performance against Madagascar, would be seeking another three points to bolster their chances of grabbing the solitary ticket in Group I.

But it wouldn’t come easy against Comoros, who handed Ghana one of their most embarrassing football defeats at last year’s AFCON, which led to the group stage exit of the Black Stars.

Well, that painful defeat continues to linger on the hearts of Ghanaian football fans, and the Black Stars would have to redeem their image by inflicting defeat on Comoros, who are currently ranked 68 places below Ghana.

The Black Stars have garnered lots of experience in the World Cup qualifiers, having appeared on the world stage four times, while Comoros only secured their first ever win in the World Cup qualifiers against CAR last Friday.

Team News

With experienced defender Daniel Amartey ruled out of the encounter against Comoros, Hoffenheim defender Kasim Nuhu seems to be the obvious replacement.

Majeed Ashimeru had a brilliant display in the second half against Madagascar and is expected to make his first start for the Black Stars, with Baba Iddrisu likely dropping to the bench.

Jordan Ayew, despite his unspirited performance in the opening fixture, is likely to maintain his place in the team, with Ernest Nuamah expected to make the starting line-up.

Comoros, on the other hand, will likely maintain the same line-up, with Hertha Berlin striker Myziane Maolida set to lead the line.

Ghana’s possible starting lineup:

Richard Ofori (GK); Dennis Odoi, Nicholas Opoku, Kasim Nuhu, Gideon Mensah, Salis Samed, Majeed Ashimeru, Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, Ernest Nuamah Comoros’ possible starting lineup: Boina (GK); Bakari, Zahary, M’Dahoma, Abdallah; Bourhane, Selemani, M’Changama; Youssouf, Maolida, Ahamada.

Kick Off Time: 16:00 (GMT)

Prediction: Comoros 1-2 Ghana
