Kadjebi (O/R), Oct 27, GNA- Three female Assembly member aspirants in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region are optimistic about snatching the seats from their male counterparts.
The aspirants are Madam Gloria Asimenu of Dodi-Akum/Tokoarano Electoral Area, Madam Faustina Tunyo of Kpalime /Anani Electoral Area, and Madam Edith Agbeve of Dubonku Electoral Area, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
So far, 10 women have declared their intention of contesting the December 19, polls with eight vying for Assemblymember slot and two contesting in the Unit Committee election.
They are from Dubonku, Kpalime/ Anani, Kadjebi Estate/Zongo, Kukurantumi, Dzamlome, Dodi-Akum, Pampawie and Menuso Electoral Areas.
Madam Gloria Asimenu, the aspirant for Dodi-Akum Electoral Area, told GNA that she was hopeful of winning as her campaign message had touched the “soul and heart” of the electorate.
She said she would use her connection with ActionAid Ghana and World Vision Ghana to lobby for projects for the electoral area when elected as Assemblywoman for the area.
Madam Asimenu said the electoral area which comprised of Akum and Tokoarano lacked a market, functional Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound and streetlight.
She said she would consult with opinion leaders and other productive groups in the area to fix those challenges when elected.
Madam Faustina Tunyo, an aspirant for Kpalime/Anani Electoral Area, told GNA her mobilization skills and concerns for the welfare of the children and vulnerable in the area had won the electorates’ hearts to vote for her as an assembly member.
Madam Tunyo, who is the Chairperson for the Kpalime/Anani Community Child Protection Committee, said she would always maintain close contact with her Electoral Area, consult them on issues to be discussed in the District Assembly and collect their views, and opinions and proposals and then present such views, opinions and proposals to the District Assembly.
She said feedback on their issues would always be communicated to them and thus appealed to the electorate to vote massively for her on December 19.
Madam Edith Agbeve, the aspirant for Dubonku Electoral Area, when interviewed by GNA, said: “I’m contesting to bring more development projects to my area.”
She said although she was not yet Assemblywoman, she occasionally fumigated and sprayed the Kadjebi Asato area, which is filthy and bushy to rid it of dangerous reptiles such as snakes.
Madam Agbeve, also an Organiser for Kadjebi Market Women Association, said she would also mobilise the electorate for communal labour to rid the area of filth when elected.
She said she would be a true Liaison Officer between the area and the Kadjebi District Assembly by feeding the assembly with the area’s problems and giving feedback to her electorates.
The Assembly member hopeful said children, who refused to go to school and come to the market for menial work would be tackled through an engagement with their parents.
Madam Agbeve, therefore, urged the electorate to vote for her to accomplish her aspirations.
Kadjebi District Assembly had 52 Assembly members; 36 elected from thirty-six Electoral Areas, who are all males and 16 appointed; including five females and 11 males.
