Accra, June 8, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Benjamin Narteh Ayiku, has urged fisher folks in the constituency to embrace peace and stop playing politics with their means of livelihood.
Mr Ayiku who gave the advice when he presented some fishing items to them said, such acts do not foster development but derail the needed development for individuals and the constituency at large.
He said fishing was the main trade of their forebears and it behoved the current generation to uphold the trade devoid of politics to build their families and society.
The MP in presenting the items which include 300 plastic fish crates, 60 stainless steel basins and 30 fish trading buckets said the fisher folks and their immediate families will be at the losing end if they do not embrace peace and work as one people.
He pleaded with the fisher folks and residents to form a formidable front that will ensure the constituency’s development.
Mr Ayiku who revealed that the gesture was to enhance their fishing business to preserve their self-reliance, also made a cash donation of GHC1,000 each to six canoe owners whose canoes have been allegedly damaged by one of the main quays constructed at the Teshie Sangonaa landing beach.
Receiving the items on behalf of the fisher folks, a Fisherman and Canoe owner, Nii Adjei Kelly lauded Mr Ayiku for consistently helping them.
He noted that before his election as MP, he had assisted many fishermen and women in sustaining their businesses and was hopeful that he would continue to hold them in high esteem as he champions the course of development for the entire constituency in Parliament.
In a related development, the MP has constructed a concrete bridge over the roadside gutter at Ada Junction, a suburb of Teshie Tsuibleoo.
The gutter which links the Tsuibleoo road to the LEKMA and Tebibianor road had become unmotorable after the metal bridge that previously covered it got damaged.
The bridge and its associated costs which were valued at GHC50,000 when opened to traffic will help connect the junction to other suburbs of the community.
The gesture, the MP said was to alleviate the plight of motorists and commuters who already had to battle with bad roads in the constituency.
