Accra, March 9, GNA – As part of activities marking International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, the United States Embassy in Ghana has collaborated with Alliance Française Accra, and the Goethe-Institute Ghana to host the Women in Motion Film Festival in Accra.
The festival which begun yesterday, Wednesday, March 8, would highlight themes including human rights, economic empowerment, motherhood.
It would also highlight women’s role in society and politics, as well as female social and political heroes whiles highlighting U.S. support for women and their essential role in Ghanaian life.
The eight-day festival among others would feature some panel discussions and the screening of experimental films each night. All films would be free and open to the public.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms Michelle Cloud, the Regional Public Engagement Specialist at the U.S. Embassy Accra said the festival would also feature a two day filmmaker workshop for a group of female film students at the National Film and Television Institute of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication.
The workshop, she said would be facilitated by Ms Akosua Adoma Owusu, a Ghanaian-American filmmaker, U.S. Department of State Arts Envoy, and professor at the Georgetown University (Washington, DC).
Ms Cloud said, the US Embassy was of the hope that the workshop and festival, in general, would impact positively on female filmmakers in the country and beyond.
